I really enjoyed several meals here. It's a bit off the path, so I consider it a hidden jewel ! The staff was friendly and professional !

Delicious dinner
Best meal we had all week! I had the lobster tail and my husband had the Grouper. They were both excellent, along with the sides. Waitress was friendly, drinks were good and we had a table at the window looking out over the channel.

Delicious food
I ordered my food and it was ready for me to pick up in a timely manner. I ended up eating in the restaurant because the view was gorgeous. Absolutely excellent.

Awesome Lunch and Gorgeous View!
Enjoyed an awesome lunch at th Upstairs restaurant. The food was delicious and the prices are competitive. The ambience was just fantastic, we sat near the window looking at the canal and surrounding view. Its a great restaurant to spend time with family and that special someone. I enjoyed the grouper fingers! There is something special about the grouper fish, a must have when you visit.

Hidden Gem on Grand Bahama
This restaurant is located inside Bell Channel Inn, so we ate there a few times while we were staying there. The service is excellent, super attentive and professional. The food is really good - it's always so interesting and refreshing to find places like this that are super relaxed, humble in a way (aren't "upscale" or trying to be fancy), and provide really high quality food/service for reasonable prices. Like a good old fashioned family diner.
Upstairs provides Bahamian food options in addition to standard food you'd find in USA/Canada/UK/Europe.
Conch fritters are excellent - I have a lot of trouble with texture in foods, and I loved their fritters, so folks who are concerned about rubbery textures in some seafood should give these a try. They also don't taste "fishy" so folks who hate fish tastes should also give them a try. The sauce goes really well with the fritters.
We had their breakfast three times - we had:
- Chicken Souse - Bahamian breakfast dish. Sort of like a chicken soup, fall-off-the-bone chicken (bone-in-chicken). Some onions add flavor. Not much else going on - husband had this and said it was really good. Great option for Keto/low-carb folks.
- Breakfast sandwich - husband had this twice, says it was "quick, delicious, and filling"
- Oatmeal - awesome serving size, I was able to actually finish the bowl and didn't feel like I didn't get enough (some oatmeal serving sizes are too big). Very simple, tasty, filling.
- French Toast, Eggs, & Bacon - well made, simple, delicious. Bacon in the Bahamas is cut differently than in the States/Canada/UK, so just know ahead that it will likely look different than what you're accustomed to.
- Coconut French Toast - delicious! The coconut is sprinkled on and then fried, so the coconut is fried right onto the bread.
Drinks are great, too! Great place all around.

Good food, Great view!
This is a good restaurant with a great view of an inlet on Grand Bahama Island, Freeport. Had a great bar. I recommend this restaurant.

Fresh fish galore
Great atmosphere great food adapted for my allergies no problem. Enjoyed a tasty breakfast and dinner. Food plentiful and fresh. Highly recommend.

Great local hangout
I visited this place twoce. Once for cocktails and once for breakfast. Service people are friendly and helpful. View over the Port Lucaya harbor is nice. Great breakfast with Texas French Toast, eggs and sausage. BFRDs (Big F***ing Rum Drinks) are well concocted and exude the taste of the islands.

Friendly, good food, good view
We stayed at Bell Channel Inn for just one night, but made many friends amongst the folks that work there. The room was clean and neat, the staff helped arrange a ride to the Garden of the Groves, and most importantly, they figured out the place they collectively liked the best for conch salad, which was a really cool adventure to find Terry (thanks to Mike, our taxi driver!).

The food and drink here was lovely. The locals would either suggest eating here or Zorbas. Here was absolutely wonderful with beautiful views.

Hey, thats my table!
Hit this place several times on our Bahama stay this year. Never let down once! The eats were great each time, waitresses were smiling and the drinks were cold. What more can you desire?

Great food
I had lobster, fish sandwich at this location. Food was fantastic. It was so convenient that restaurant is just right above the receptionist area which is a added benefit to stay here.

Date Night... Upstairs
Atmosphere is lovely. The bar is in the dining room, but the entire clientele is... hmmm upscale? Not loud, no ruckus, no profanity or blue language. The food is delicious. The dinner salad is fresh and flavorful. The coconut shrimp? Deliciously different. They make this sauce for dipping which is exquisite! Service is on point.

Great food, top-end service, and a quality local watering hole bar. Try the Bahamian breakfast for a change of pace, and enjoy fish dishes in the evening.

my experience at Upstairs On The Bay is always great .. the staff always with a smile, food always fresh drinks always cold ... great place to have family or friends come together for good food and laughter even live music on Thursdays .. i was not expecting that but it was so good ... i will always go back to this restaurant when ever i am in Freeport again .... Great food and good prices
We couldn’t find a restaurant in the Port Lucaya Market that didn’t close before 7pm on a Sunday and a friend had mentioned trying this place out. Walking in the hotel as well as upstairs to the restaurant we were pleasantly greeted by everyone. Servers were prompt in addressing our large party and arranging tables for us. The food (I had lobster mac) was delicious and reasonably priced! Great view of the bay and great service as well! We will most definitely be coming back if we are ever in the area!

Best food ever
I enjoyed a delicious crack conch dinner with fries ccompanied with a fruit punch afterwards I took home a pina colada. The crack conch was phenomenal!!! The fruit punch was amazing and so was the pina colada which was made right in front of me, I was amazed! Ps if you get a chance try there iced tea!

The BEST Bahama Mamas on the island are at the bar
We tested Bahama Mamas at every bar and restaurant that we visited. They were the best at this restaurant. Breakfast was good, too. Try the Bahamian corned beef breakfast: delish! Hubby ordered their pancakes EVERY SINGLE MORNING--that's how good they are!

Cozy and Romantic
Took my wife here for one of our date outings and it was nice. It is upstairs and overlooks into the port Lucaya marina. The atmosphere is nice, once you get there before the bar crew arrives. the food is good and they do serve fast.

Delicious food
We ate at this restaurant all but 1 meal in our 3 day stay. There is a full bar in this restaurant. Everything was so good and fresh. We tried the fish and chips, Stewed Grouper, Stewed Conch and Chicken Souse with home baked Johnny Cake, chicken wings, club sandwich, tuna melt, breakfast sandwiches, conch fritters. We never got anything that we did not like.
The wait staff is fantastic and the sometimes you may need to wait a little longer because the chefs cook your meal fresh.
You definitely will not leave hungry!

Fantasic small restaurant with excellent selection and FRESH seafood choices.
My husband and I loves our dining experience here. I had salmon and he had lobster. The chef's fresh vegetables were incredible and the service first rate. It wasn't at all noisy and the views of the harbor as the sunset and the lights came twinkling on was so relaxing.

One of Grand Bahama's Secret Prizes!!
I decided to try out this restaurant from other divers who just happened to be staying at the resort. I have a very critical girlfriend, but even she was won over! We had the shrimp and grits, and the fried shrimp. So good we had to make a point to compliment the chef. Nice cloths on tables, great evening view, and our waitress was very pleasant.
I just wish I wouldn't have tried it so late in our trip to sample more!

Best Food on the Island!

Lovely canal front restaurant with good food and great service.
We always have a very good meal at the Upstairs Restaurant & Bar. It is a family business that provides home cooked meals with exceptional service. Charmaine and all the staff are very pleasant and personable. The menu has a good selection of salads, main courses and deserts. We highly recommend a visit to this establishment. You won't be disappointed.

They have authentic bohemian cuisine as well as other choices. They are very friendly. They are cheaper there than other places for their Kalik...My fav beer! To sum it up they are just GOOD People! I wish I could live downstairs to the UPSTAIRS restaurant!

Great Food...Great Price!!!
Upstairs is a hidden treasure in Freeport Grand Bahama...we have a second home in Freeport and we make sure we eat at Upstairs at least once every trip!! The food is great and you can always count on really good local fare. The Owners are usually on site and take great pride in making sure your experience at their lovely restaurant meets your high expectations. The service is always warm and friendly and we love getting a table over looking the canal. We recommend this restaurant to everyone we meet that is lookiing for a place to go that is not your typical tourist place to eat but a true representation of what Freeport Grand Bahama has to offer with excellent food and service...my husband loves the table cloths as well!! Enjoy!!!

Love the view and the food!
Great food and drinks, scenic view and peaceful surroundings. The lobster tails were big and succulent. Grilled grouper was seasoned nicely. The price for the food was reasonable.

Great private group room
We've brought several groups of up to 15 people to the Upstairs Restaurant. They handle us nicely, and the staff is amazing. The food is good and the atmosphere is very local and casual. The menu offers a nice variety of local cuisine.

Hidden Gem
I am a Grand Bahamian and I have eaten at all of these restaurants on this list, many many times. The Upstairs Restaurant has been open for about 4-6 months now and I finally gave it a try this weekend. I was very impressed. The staff was great, especially our server Sharmain (I think that's how you spell it, I know it's spelt with a S!). We just had appetizers and drinks, but the service was great and the food was very, very good! I will definitely be checking out them out again, soon!
I recommend anyone to this restaurants, especially Bahamians like myself who find it hard to try new things!

This was just the place I was hoping to find on Grand Bahama.
The atmosphere in this small, friendly place was pleasant and welcoming from the moment we opened the door. Service was attentive and knowledgable. The conch fritters and conch bites were delicious and each of our three entrees (salmon, snapper, and lobster tail) were great. And we had a great view over the water. Our server told me that 95% of their patrons are locals, and now I know why!

Christmas Dinner with family
We were worried about finding a place to eat for Christmas since a lot of the places were closed and were lucky to find that the Upstairs Restaurant was serving a special Christmas meal. Three of us ordered the traditional Christmas dinner (with a Bahamian twist) and two ordered off the menu. This is a small restaurant and very clean and comfortable. The service and food were very good. One in our party got a pina colada which came with fresh saved coconut. He said it was the best he has ever had. You can't go wrong eating at this little gem.

Great spot
We have had a place on the island for 11 years and only recently discovered this gem. Amazing food, service, view. The fish is so tender and the service is quick. Get the shrimp and grits!

Locally Owned
Good food, clean, good service and your really helping the local economy. Usually we stay at the Bell Channel Inn when we stay in Lucaya. We had an opportunity to stay at a resort for a great price and took advantage. We always have at least one meal at the Upstairs. It's small, intimante with a great view down the Bell Channel. Try one of the local dishes, conch stew, etc. The bar can get a little loud with divers & fisherman telling their lies but it's all part of the local atmosphere. Try the dive shop on primise. Good prices.

Upstairs at Bell Channel
Upstairs is a small, casual restaurant that offers fresh, well made food. Especially fun on Friday evening when there is live entertainment by Jay Mitchell, a well known Bahamian performer. Dancing is number one. Service is personal and professional and everyone seems to know everyone. If they don't, they are friendly enough to introduce themselves. During the holiday season (winter), the Danish/Bahamian owners have a Glug party and all are invited. A fun place. The conch chowder is spicy and thick, my personal favorite. I have gone there for breakfast, lunch and dinner at various times. Always worth it.

Pretty much a complete package
I stayed there for three days. The place is part of a hotel and also a diving school. The rooms are clean, not the Ritz carlton, but very nice inded and great value.
the food is great-the breakfast is very well cooked and plentiful.
On the evening, I had the stir-fried shrimp, which was delicious.
They also had some music going on, and the place got packed, with everyone having aa really good time.
The bar ladies are quick, and the drinks were well-made.
For me, it was the best restaurant on the island during my stay.

Sweet
This place serves all three meals, or go there just for drinks, it does have several stairs to climb (hence upstairs)
On Friday they have a live band.
Breakfast is real eggs and fresh pancakes are what I ate and was very pleased. I'm not sure of the bar scene, they do not have outdoor seating but have many windows facing Bell Channel.
I was well pleased with the price, bacon, eggs, pancakes and orange juice was 8.00.
I would go there again.
